New Heavy
Theres a new chemical in town and its a heavy weight its going to enter the periodic table as the harviest element of all. The new element is temporarily called ununbium Latin for one-one two or 112, the number assined to the element. Scientist at the GSI helmholz center for heavy ion research in the southwest German city of darmstadt produced this element in 1996 by firing charged zinc atoms at lead target using a 120 meter particle accelerator.
The result was ununbium which is 227 times hevier than hydrogen and the heaviest element in the periodic table to date. Other scientists encountered some difficulty in recreating the element because of is quite unstable and last only milliseconds after it forms. This caused the delay from the of its discovery to its inclusion into the periodic table. But now its all system go as the international union of pure and applied chemistry has already approved 112’s.
Inventors Makes their Mark
Although the may not be as advanced as First World countries in science and technology, that doesn’t stop from coming up with their own inventions despite the lacks of funding and support. At the 2008 nationals Inventors week, a wheelchair that also functions as a bed, toilet, and bath chair in addition to being a means of transport for the elderly and persons with dissabilities. This multipurpose chair was one of the finalist for the award given by the technology applications and promotios institute of the department of science and technology.
The inventors came up the idea for this chair after his brothers suffered as stroke and was paralized seeing the difficulty in caring for his invalid brothers he though a multipurposed wheelchair would makes things for his brother ang his caregivers. Unfortunately the invention is still not commercially available; it was patented only in October 2008.
